I inherited a massive debt ($27,000) but working with both the Vice President and Treasurer, we were able to clear the entire debt by the time my tenure was over. Responsibilities included maintaining good standards with the National Fraternity, Penn State Inter-Fraternal Council, and the Borough of State College. For the entire calendar year of 2012, I served as President of my Fraternity. This would all help me for the most challenging position I would hold during my college career - President of Alpha Sigma Phi. While serving as these three positions, I gained loads of leadership experience as well as learning the inner workings of the Fraternity. During Fraternity Rush when I served as Recruitment Chair I was responsible for collecting and organizing all of the Potential New Member's information, as well as contacting them about attending any of the alcohol-free events that I had organized during the period. In the fall of my sophomore year, I continued to hold the two positions I was elected to my freshman year, but, in addition, I was voted to serve as the Recruitment Chair. That same semester I was elected to serve as Social Chair, where I was responsible for planning mixers with Sororities on a weekly basis as well as managing a budget of over $10,000 per semester. I was forced to command the respect of the older brothers, as I acted as a liaison between over 20 chairs and the executive board of the Fraternity. I was voted in by over 60% of the Brotherhood to replace him as Member-at-Large, the third in command behind both the President and the Vice President. Due to unfortunate circumstances, one of the Brothers had to leave Penn State during the spring of my freshman year. After pledging in the fall of 2010, I quickly began to seize the leadership opportunities that were put in front of me. While it would be a lie to say that my decision wasn't partially influenced by my love for Animal House, I recognized that joining a Fraternity would provide me with friendships, connections, and more leadership experiences than almost any other on-campus organization.
